Ghannouchi admits the mistakes of the Brotherhood

In order to avoid responsibility, the Tunisian Brotherhood is adopting a new approach, expressed by their leader, Rached Ghannouchi, who recognizes the mistakes he made against the people and supports the actions of 25 July, during which the Tunisian President Kais Saied cut the grass under their feet.

Ghannouchi’s confession was made in an article published in the Muslim Brotherhood’s general opinion newspaper, in which he revealed a number of mistakes that his party and government made during the last ten years, especially with regard to governing and engineering governmental and party alliances.

In his article, Ghannouchi was also exposed to the circumstances and reasons behind what happened on July 25, considering these decisions “an expression of the sincere popular will that is hungry for change, fed up with the government and its belt” but he fears that it is the beginning of a military rule’’.

The Brotherhood leader stressed that Kais Saied’s actions on July 25 were like opening an oxygen channel in an atmosphere stifled by the covid.

These confessions were considered by Tunisian social media users as a deception by Ghannouchi to jump over his lost ship to escape accountability and punishment.

“With his statement today, Ghannouchi is moving to a second plan after he failed to storm parliament on July 26th and after the failure of the protests, the last of which was last Sunday”, wrote activist Azzouz al-Manai.

“Ghannouchi will trade his safety for a safe exit with his group”, he said in a Facebook post.

Escape from accounting

Civil society activist Hadi al-Ameri said, “With the resounding fall of the Muslim Brotherhood’s leader, who lost everything internally and externally, he became shaken and twisted to escape accountability“.

He continued on Facebook: “Don’t believe in deceit and deception. He’s a wounded monster… A new tactic for the Brotherhood… The people hated you“.

In a post on Facebook, social media activist Mohrez Al Hedari expressed his astonishment at Ghannouchi’s remarks, saying: “Pay attention to this cunning fox.. “Ghannouchi is trying to get closer to Kais Saied, stating with regard to the July 25 resolutions that they are timely and responsive and reflect genuine popular will.”

In the latest opinion poll, published on Wednesday, President of the Renaissance Brotherhood Movement Rached Ghannouchi topped the overall lack of confidence in political figures by 82%.

This comes after a decade of disillusionment among Tunisians and a heavy legacy of weakness in the state administration that reflected negatively on the economic, social and political situation, in addition to direct accusations of the spread of terrorism and extremist thought in the country, observers said.

The streets of Tunisia witnessed popular celebrations on the night of July 25th, following the announcement by President Kais Saied of exceptional measures, the most prominent of which was the dissolution of the Hichem Mechichi government, which is allied with the Muslim Brotherhood, the suspension of the works of the parliament headed by Rached al-Ghannouchi, and the lifting of the immunity of the deputies.
